Fabric Requirements for either design:

  • 1/2 yard for background
  • *Assorted scraps for dragonfly or hummingbird
  • Optional, for finishing as a mini quilt: 5/8 yd. backing, 1/6 yd. binding
*If you choose to bring scraps, a selection of 2.5" strips and 5" charm squares are good size options. Backing and binding are not needed for class.

Supply List

Choose either pattern, Gossamer Wings or Tiny Jewel (pattern purchase is required)

  • Add-a-Quarter ruler
  • Index card, template plastic scrap, or anything thin and rigid to be used as a straightedge
  • Rotary cutter - 28mm (small) recommended
  • Rotary cutting mat (small mat is good)
  • Sewing machine in good working order
  • Schmetz quilting needles, size 75/11
  • Thread for piecing, 50wt, neutral color
  • Straight pins
  • Fabric scissors
  • Paper scissors
  • Scotch tape

Pre-class work:
Photocopy the pattern pieces, preferably on one of the following: Carol Doak's Foundation Paper, Simple Foundations from C&T, or Perfect Piecing Foundation Sheets from June Tailor (all available at the shop), newsprint or lightweight copy paper. Make sure you copy at 100% size. Roughly cut the pieces out (do not cut directly on the lines).  Tape together the sections of pieces A, E, I, and J. Avoid putting tape over the sewing lines (the solid lines). Fold along each of the sewing lines to make a crease; it doesn’t matter which direction the crease folds as long as it’s directly on the line. Copies of the foundation pattern will be available for purchase at the shop for $5 a set.
