Quilt Techniques: A Cut Above



If you struggle with cutting fabric, this course is for you. Learn best practices and helpful tips to take your cutting skills to the next level. Accurate cutting is the foundation for
accurate piecing and a skill that you will make your quilting journey more enjoyable.

This class will focus on assembling your cutting toolbox and skill-building:
Cutting Mats – types, usage, and care
Rotary Cutters – types, usage, blades, and safety
Rulers – features and how to read
How to prepare fabric for cutting
Squaring up fabric and making your cuts
**No sewing machine is needed for this class**

Please Bring the following supplies:


  • 18" x 24" (or larger) cutting mat

  • Rotary cutter, with a new, sharp blade

  • Acrylic rulers, ideally 6" x 24" and 6" x 12", or similar sizes

  • 1/2 yard of fabric you don't mind using for test cutting

Rebecca Lidstrom
Instructor Bio:
Rebecca Lidstrom is the founder and creative force behind Studio R Quilts. She is an enthusiastic quilter, designer, and instructor. Rebecca made her first quilt in 2004 and immediately fell in love with all things quilting.
A simple design aesthetic combined with color, texture, and traditional quilt blocks are what defines Rebecca's patterns. She takes the intimidation factor out of the quilt-making process and believes regardless of skill level, anyone can make a quilt.
Helping others discover and enjoy quilting is a passion for Rebecca. She is excited to be part of the wonderful quilting community and share her knowledge with others. Rebecca is a member of the Madison Modern Quilt Guild and Mad City Quilt Guild.
Rebecca is excited to be designing her own line of quilt patterns and sharing them with the quilting community. She creates from her studio in Madison, WI.
