Precise piecing is about more than just sewing a perfect quarter-inch seam. In this hands-on technique class, you will dig into every factor that affects your piecing accuracy. Learn how accurate cutting, a consistent seam allowance, flawless pressing, and precise trimming all work together so you can walk away with the skills to make blocks that fit the way they are supposed to, every single time.
In this class, you will learn:
- Accurate cutting—tips for getting consistently accurate fabric pieces before you ever sit down at your machine
- Consistent seam allowances—how presser feet, thread, needles, throat plates, and machine settings all affect your seam
- Fine-tuning your machine—get hands-on as you stitch, measure, and make adjustments to find your perfect quarter-inch seam allowance
- Flawless pressing—the difference between pressing and ironing, and how to press for a flat, stress-free seam every time
- Aligning fabric and precise trimming—how to partner triangle pieces with squares and rectangles, the pros and cons of nested seams, and why oversizing and trimming down gives you accurate finished pieces

Supply List:
- Sewing machine in good working order with power cord, foot pedal, and manual
- 18" x 24" (or larger) cutting mat
- Rotary cutter, with a new, sharp blade
- Acrylic rulers (6" x 24" and 6" x 12" or what you typically use for cutting fabric)
- (2) fat quarters in contrasting colors.
- Sewing basics: thread, scissors, seam ripper, pins, etc.
Pre-Class Fabric Cutting Instructions:
You do not need to cut any fabric prior to class. Simply bring your 2 fat quarters to class.

Rebecca made her first quilt in 2004 and immediately fell in love with all things quilting. A simple design aesthetic combined with color, texture, and traditional quilt blocks are what defines Rebecca's patterns. She takes the intimidation factor out of the quilt-making process and believes regardless of skill level, anyone can make a quilt. Helping others discover and enjoy quilting is a passion for Rebecca. She is excited to be part of the wonderful quilting community and share her knowledge with others. Rebecca is a member of the Madison Modern Quilt Guild and Mad City Quilt Guild.
