Craft Longer, Feel Stronger



Physical therapist Catie Koss will help you craft longer and feel stronger by teaching you ergonomic set-up of sewing, quilting, and crafting spaces and an exercise program to prevent overuse aches and pains. Learn to listen to your body and keep your sewing and crafting time enjoyable and comfortable.

Please bring note-taking supplies and a yoga mat if you have one

Class Outline: 


1. Basic Anatomy of a Crafter
a. rounded shoulders, neural tension, core stability
2. Ergonomic Set-Up
a. support, posture, tools
3. Exercise Program
a. Turn on your core to reduce low back pain so you can finish that project!
b. Shoulder posture to improve range of motion and decrease fatigue.
c. Work on neural tension to reduce numbness and tingling and the risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
d. Posture checks to prevent pain and let you craft longer.

Skill Details: This class is appropriate for all quilters, sewists, & crafters
Instructor Bio: Catie received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from UW-Madison in 2012. Since then she has worked across multiple settings, most recently in homecare. When she isn't working, Catie has been a multi-crafter longer than she can remember and currently enjoys quilting, crocheting, and knitting. Professionally she is transitioning her focus to preventative medicine and the next logical step is to merge her love of crafting with her physical therapy knowledge which she is excited to share with others.
