Curves the Clammy Way
Learn to piece curves the Clammy way. This Clammy template designed by Latifah Saafir may be used for all types of curves, including a whole circle, half circle and even an orange peel. In the first class, you’ll learn and practice how to piece a basic curve, how to plan your Clammy quilt and organize your pieces and how to cut fabric using The Clammy Template. In the second class, you’ll start piecing your quilt from the top down. (There will be two weeks in between to give you ample time to plan your quilt and cut your clamshells.) During the third class, you’ll learn how to complete your quilt top by sewing the bottom row.
Supply List (all supplies are available at the shop)
- Sewing machine in good working order
- ¼” presser foot, if available
- The Clammy Template (size is up to you; larger clamshells will take less time to cut and piece because there won’t be as many of them. The shop sample uses a 9” clamshell.)
- Glam Clam Quilt pattern by Latifah Saafir
- Thread for piecing, neutral color
- Cutting mat
- 28mm rotary cutter (note that this is smaller than what you may generally use. The smaller diameter is needed for cutting around the Clammy Template)
- Acrylic ruler at least 6” x 12” (larger if you’re using the 12” or 16” Clammy Template)
- Pencil or fabric pen
- Sewing basics - clips, pins, scissors, seam ripper, extra needles
- Iron and pressing board/pad
- Fabric according to quilt size

| Instructor Bio: | Christine (she/her) has been creating for as long as she can remember. As a kid, she finished her mom’s crewel projects, sewed doll clothes on a temperamental White sewing machine, crocheted a sweater for her dog, and counted many cross stitches. As an adult, she quilts (both machine and EPP), makes clothes because she has too many quilts, weaves and knits. She continues to work on improving her skills and is always open to learning new ones. In her non-sewing life, Christine is a public servant, a mom to 3 kids and a rescue dog from Texas, and a wife. She loves road trips to national parks with a needle and thread. |
