Demeter Work Day

When: May 17, 2022
10:00 am
Details: Daughters of Demeter, Inc. is a non profit organization that was founded in 1917 to serve our community.  Historically the membership was largely represented by faculty wives of the UW College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and has since expanded its membership to welcome all faculty, staff and friends of the college and recently invited its first male member. The group now has some 120 members.
Demeter members meet monthly from September through May to sew head coverings for women undergoing cancer treatment at the Carbone Cancer Center in Madison.  We deliver on average 120 caps and scarves every month to the wig salon who distributes them.  Within our group, some people spend time cutting the fabrics while others sew and serge.  Another task it to apply a label and fold them for delivery.  We have been supported by cash donations, fabric donations, and small grants to procure the materials to construct the head coverings.
