Boro Book

Learn Boro stitching, its history, and link to traditional Japanese sashiko while making a small, sampler book for future reference. Using pre-stressed fabrics of different weights and weaves as pages for a book, students will "mend" the pages using various fabric scraps and stitches commonly seen in boro work. We will finish the book during the second session by learning a traditional bookbinding technique applied to the fabric pages. The class involves homework stitching between sessions and discussion of creative and practical ways to apply boro work.
All materials and threads are provided. Please bring a small pair of scissors or thread snips and a thimble if you use one.
